For each book-length project, at the end of my Scrivener files, I have one more document that I call Journal of Progress. This is where I keep track of what I have accomplished as well as write down my frustrations and difficulties while writing. This is where I complain to no one in particular. And then once I'm finished moaning, I move my cursor to another chapter for some more work.
This system seems to work for me as it allows a break from writing or editing and replaces a lengthy phone call to a friend or editor which is not always possible.
